Your application process is complete when you have provided the following items:
You have the option of making an additional submission of samples of research and writing. International students must also submit TOEFL/IELTS/MELAB Scores.
For fall semester admissions, the application deadline is January 1. There are no spring admissions for the PhD program. We strongly encourage you to submit your application as early as possible, but no later than the application deadline.
As part of the application, you will be required to upload an objectives statement and a diversity statement that should also touch on a personal accomplishment. In your objectives statement, please provide information about your preferred area of concentration between the following:
You should also upload a copy of your resume and, if possible, your transcripts. Please also use the Graduate School's online recommendation feature for your letters of recommendation. You will also need to pay an application fee with a credit card. The Graduate School's application can be saved and continued later. Select "Human Resources and Industrial Relations PhD – 039760208" as your proposed major in the application.
Please upload your resume in the Graduate School application.
Unofficial transcripts or academic records should be uploaded directly to the online application. International students should also upload an English translation if the transcript is not in English. Please do not mail in paper copies of your transcripts. There is no need for official transcripts or academic records for initial review.
If you are admitted, the University will then request official copies of this material.
Minimum academic requirements for international applicants are a 4-year bachelor's degree or a master's degree (2 years after your bachelor's degree).

All applicants are required to take either the GRE or GMAT. Scores must be from within the past five years. Average GRE scores for admitted students are 600 verbal and 780 quantitative.

We require three letters of recommendation, preferably from professors. Please use the online system for letters of recommendation through the Graduate School's application.
You have the option of submitting samples of research and writing. Please upload additional materials as part of your Graduate School application.
The TOEFL, MELAB, or IELTS is generally required of all applicants whose native language is not English, regardless of U.S. Citizenship status. Applicants who have completed 24 quarter credits/16 semester credits (within 24 months of the applicant's proposed term of entry) in residence as a full-time student at a recognized institution of higher learning in the United States or other English-speaking country before entering the University of Minnesota are generally exempted from this requirement.
