Distinguished Alumni Recognized at Carlson School Honors Dinner

Four distinguished University of Minnesota alumni were honored recently at the 2010 Carlson School Honors Dinner with either Outstanding Achievement or Alumni Service awards. The event was held at the Carlson School on September 30, 2010.

The Outstanding Achievement award is conferred by the Regents of the University to alumni who have attained unusual distinction in their chosen fields or professions and have demonstrated exceptional leadership on a community, state, national, or international level.

The Alumni Service award is conferred by the Regents of the University to alumni in recognition of volunteer service to the University, its schools, colleges, departments, or faculty; or to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Alumni Association or any of its constituent groups.

Outstanding Achievement Award

Arthur B. Schultz, '51 BSB

Arthur Schultz is a visionary who strives to make the world a better place by empowering people to help themselves. His foundation, The Arthur B. Schultz Foundation, impacts and changes lives through sponsorship of third- world economic development and innovative "pay it forward" programs. Schultz also provides fellowships to Carlson School Full-Time MBA students to study micro-finance in developing countries.

Bill Sands successfully combines his business savvy with a commitment to the local community. The work done as a result of his success has greatly improved the status of neighborhoods in the Twin Cities. Sands is active with the Carlson School's Holmes Center for Entrepreneurship and the Emerging Leaders Program where he serves as a role model to students by showing that it is possible to be successful while doing "the right thing."

Susan Sands, '69 BA

Entrepreneur and community leader, Susan Sands has used her business savvy, leadership abilities, and passion for social justice to help advance the mission of many non-profit organizations throughout the Twin Cities. Sands was a co-founder of the Minnesota chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners and she currently serves on the Community Advisory Network for the University's Center for Spirituality and Healing.

Deborah Broberg is an outstanding example of an involved and engaged alumna, committed to making a difference at the University through board involvement, mentoring students, and assisting with career opportunities. Broberg is an active member of the Undergraduate Advisory Board and serves as a liaison between Wells Fargo and the Carlson School.
