The Carlson Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program looks for students with a strong academic background and a commitment to building the integrity and reputation of the accounting profession. Carlson MAcc students have diverse backgrounds, but they come to the program with a strong undergraduate foundation.
A prerequisite for admission to the MAcc is an undergraduate finance or accounting degree (or equivalent) from an accredited U.S. institution (or a foreign equivalent), and a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher.
For those students who do not have an undergraduate accounting degree and who wish to complete the core accounting curriculum prior to the MAcc, the University of Minnesota College of Continuing Education offers an Accounting Certificate program. A Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score that is not more than five years old is required for admission to the MAcc program. The requirement for a GMAT score is waived for admitted Carlson School undergraduate students.
All international applicants must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test. The TOEFL or IELTS is generally required of all applicants whose native language is not English, regardless of U.S. citizenship status.Students may apply during their senior year, but must complete the baccalaureate degree prior to entering the MAcc program. Applicants may direct any questions on the admissions process to the MAcc program office at 612-624-7511 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
