Professor Arthur V. Hill is the Associate Dean for MBA Programs and the John and Nancy Lindahl Professor for Excellence in Business Education in the Supply Chain and Operations Department in the Curtis L. Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point for two years and earned a B.A. in Mathematics from Indiana University, an MS in Industrial Administration from the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University, and a Ph.D. in Management also from Krannert.
Art has been recognized as an outstanding instructor in the Carlson School of Management in several national publications including Business Week. In 1999, the Carlson School of Management nominated him for the All-University Teaching Award for Graduate and Professional Education and he won the Golden Globe Teaching Award in 2002.
He has extensive international experience on four continents, including helping found the Soviet-American Management Institute in Moscow (1989), teaching in executive programs at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa (1990, 1991) and at IMD in Switzerland (1994-1995), and holding the position of Distinguished Visiting Professor at the National University of Singapore (1999).
Professor Hill has provided operations management consulting for many manufacturing, distribution, healthcare, banking, service, and government organizations including 3M, Best Buy, Cargill, Carlson, Ceridian, CH Robinson Worldwide, Cummins, Dow, General Mills, Goodrich, Home Depot, Honeywell, Land O’Lakes, Medtronic, Nestlé, Target, Thomson Reuters, Toro, and U.S. Bank.
He was the editor of the Journal of Operations Management, which is a top OM academic journal. In 2008, he was ranked number 8 in service operations management research and in 1996 he was ranked number 17 in operations management research overall. He is a Fellow of the American Production Inventory Control Society and wrote the APICS certification CPIM exams for five years. His service management book was published by Irwin in 1995. His Encyclopedia of Operations Management - 2012 Edition, now published by Financial Times Press, is available through Amazon and Barnes and Noble in both hard copy and electronic reader formats. His current research is focused on supply chain process improvement.
