The most successful leaders are distinguished by a combination of four characteristics:

  1. They have exceptional natural talent
  2. They have great experiences (opportunities)
  3. They learn useful lessons from their experiences
  4. They apply the lessons they learn to tackle ever larger challenges

While you can't change your natural talents, you can make a difference in the three other characteristics. Yet, since we aren't taught how to learn from our experiences, it is easy to pass up great development opportunities, or to miss out on key lessons that could accelerate career progress. This program will help participants to better identify great on-the-job learning opportunities, enhance their learning from them, and develop a simple routine for applying what is learned to get better results for the organization while achieving personal career objectives.

This program will help you to:

  • See hidden patterns in prior experiences that are helping or hindering your career
  • Understand the most powerful experiences you have had in your career, what you have learned from them, and how you can leverage that learning
  • Identify powerful opportunities to learn in your current job while increasing your performance and contribution to the organization
  • Evaluate the developmental potential of any future experience, project, assignment, etc.
  • Make better decisions about where to invest your personal development effort
  • Practice simple techniques to help you maximize learning from experience
  • Create an experience-based development plan

Requirements

This program will use an online toolkit that requires participants to bring a laptop computer or iPad to the session. During the workshop, participants will use the online tools and interact in small group discussions to gain new insights and create an effective development plan.

Participants will receive personal access to the online tools for 12 months following the completion of the program.

This course is designed for:

  • Individuals who want to take their performance to the next level
  • Managers who are mentoring others or interested in developing others on the job
  • HR and talent development professionals who are charged with stretching their organization's learning and development budgets
