This is a semester exchange program, where students take classes (in English or German) directly at a partner university and substitute that semester for a semester at the University of Minnesota. The partner university will send one of their students to the Carlson School of Management to take classes in their place.

Exchanges often require students to demonstrate a high degree of independence, adaptability, and flexibility because support and service may be different from a US university. Examples of differences that exchange students should be prepared to encounter include varying housing options, the amount and timing of program details, grading based less on assignments and more on final exams, and an academic calendar that may differ significantly from the University of Minnesota.

The school is committed to instructing students in entrepreneurship, service, and adding value—a study experience rich in both theory and application. Every year the St. Gallen Symposium attracts 600 business executives and politicians who come to meet with St. Gallen students.

St. Gallen is located a few hours from Geneva, a city considered to be the investment capital of the world, and one with a longstanding tradition of leading in innovation and applied business practice. St. Gallen boasts a traffic-free old town and abbey precinct that has been declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. In addition to the many museums, theaters, and outdoor activities, St. Gallen is in close proximity to both Germany and Austria and offers countless travel opportunities.

When selecting a semester exchange program, students should take note of academic calendars that differ significantly from the University of Minnesota. Consider potential conflicts such as holidays, family events, graduation ceremonies, and summer jobs/internships early in the selection process.

Work with Education Abroad Advisers and the Carlson Business Career Center for support addressing challenges.

*St Gallen's central exam period extends into January/February and June/July. Exchange students make special arrangements with instructors to take exams during the last weeks of the semester.

Students are enrolled in 15 S/N Carlson School International Business (IBUS 5100) credits for their semester at the University of St Gallen. Students enroll in a minimum of 26 ECTS credits at St Gallen to meet requirements.

St. Gallen has many courses in English at the bachelor level. Students can select from Marketing, Knowledge Management, Corporate Restructuring, Finance, Logistics Management, Distribution & Channel Management and much more. Students also have the opportunity to take unique course topics like "Doing Business in China" or "Management in Europe" to further deepen their international insights into core business functions.

A one-week intensive German course is provided prior to each term and language courses may continue during the term.

There is no on-campus housing available at the University of St. Gallen, but their housing office can assist exchange students in finding accommodation. There are a variety of different housing options to suit your budget and preferences, typically a private room in a flat shared with other students. Students may also choose to arrange their own housing by researching the online housing market.

To be eligible for this education abroad program, you must be:

• A University of Minnesota student who has successfully completed the I-Core curriculum or equivalent coursework
• In good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.5
• Additional criteria may apply

Application materials include the online application form, a resume, and essay. Submit a completed application by the February 28th priority deadline prior to the academic year in which you wish to participate. Programs that do not fill following the priority deadline will be reviewed on a rolling admissions basis.

Admission to all programs is based on review of your application by the study abroad selection committee, and selection notifications are sent out within one month of the priority deadline or receipt of application during rolling admission. Once selected, students are given the opportunity to confirm acceptance, at which point they are subject to Education Abroad policies.
