This is a semester exchange program, where students take classes (in English or Polish) directly at a partner university and substitute that semester for a semester at the University of Minnesota. The partner university will send one of their students to the Carlson School of Management to take classes in their place.

Exchanges often require students to demonstrate a high degree of independence, adaptability, and flexibility because support and service may be different from a US university. Examples of differences that exchange students should be prepared to encounter include varying housing options, the amount and timing of program details, grading based less on assignments and more on final exams, and an academic calendar that may differ significantly from the University of Minnesota.

A democratic country with a stable, robust economy, Poland is an ideal location for study abroad. The Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) is located on the northern edge of the Mokotów district of Warsaw, known for its parks and green spaces, as well as many foreign embassies, major businesses, and the National Library of Poland. The district is one of the better preserved areas of Warsaw, having survived both the Warsaw Uprising and the events of WWII relatively intact.

Founded in 1906 and staying open through World War II, the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) is Poland’s oldest and most prestigious university of economics. SGH has 16,000 students and 900 faculty members and departments include Economics, European Studies, Finance, Accounting, Management, International Business, and Public Economy and Administration. The SGH campus is located in central Warsaw and near bus and tram stops, as well as a metro station.

When selecting a semester exchange program, students should take note of academic calendars that differ significantly from the University of Minnesota. Consider potential conflicts such as holidays, family events, graduation ceremonies, and summer jobs/internships early in the selection process.

Students are enrolled in 15 S/N Carlson School International Business (IBUS 5100) credits for a semester at SGH and take 4 or 5 full courses (30 ECTS) at SGH to earn 15 Carlson School credits.

International exchange students are offered subjects at the undergraduate level from SGH existing majors including: Economics, European Studies, Finance & Accounting, Management, International Business, Public Economy and Administration. Since all courses offered are also open to regular SGH students, they generate positive exchange of ideas and provoke constructive multicultural teamwork.

While the majority of courses are in Polish, SGH offers full-time BA and MA programs in English so course options are available. All exchange students may attend beginning Polish language classes and also have access to language tutorials in German, French, Russian, Italian and Spanish.

On-campus, double occupancy accommodations are available for International Exchange students in Sabinki dormitory. The application is online, and can be completed upon acceptance the program by CGI and registration to SGH as an exchange student. Assignments are made on a first-come-first-served basis. To be eligible for this education abroad program, you must be:

• A University of Minnesota student who has successfully completed the I-Core curriculum or equivalent coursework
• In good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0
• Additional criteria may apply and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance

Application materials include the online application form, a resume, and essay. Submit a completed application by the February 28th priority deadline prior to the academic year in which you wish to participate. Programs that do not fill following the priority deadline will be reviewed on a rolling admissions basis.

Admission to all programs is based on review of your application by the study abroad selection committee, and selection notifications are sent out within one month of the priority deadline or receipt of application during rolling admission. Once selected, students are given the opportunity to confirm acceptance, at which point they are subject to Education Abroad policies
