Scholarships
To support the international education of Carlson undergraduate and graduate students, the University of Minnesota and the Carlson School offer study abroad scholarships and financial aid packages. If you're interested in studying abroad, we encourage you to plan ahead, pick a program carefully, apply for scholarships well in advance, and complete your financial aid paperwork on time.
Eligibility and Award Criteria
Carlson students participating in Carlson Global Institute (CGI) or the University of Minnesota Learning Abroad Center programs are eligible for need-based scholarship and merit-based scholarship. Carlson students may receive one need-based study abroad scholarship during their academic career. Students who have already received a need-based award are still eligible for merit-based awards.
Application
- Carlson Global Institute participants: Complete the online application for your education abroad program of choice.
- To be considered for need-based scholarships, complete the Need Statement on your application checklist, and submit your FAFSA form as early as possible.
- To be considered for merit-based scholarships, complete the optional Merit Essay on your application checklist.
- Learning Abroad Center participants: inquire with Education Abroad Advisers about application timelines as you prepare to apply for a Learning Abroad Center program.
Scholarship Cycles
For full consideration, apply by the deadline on or nearest to your program application deadline. If you miss the priority deadline, submit your scholarship application by the next application cycle deadline (see chart below).

Learning Abroad Center Scholarships
Students participating in Carlson summer and semester-length programs are eligible for scholarships through the Learning Abroad Center and they maintain a database of outside scholarships.
