Sweden is host to more multinational companies per capita than any other nation in the world and is a leader in international trade and commerce. The capital city of Stockholm spans fourteen islands between the Baltic Sea and Lake Mälaren. The diversification of trade across many industries, including natural resources, pharmaceutical, and telecommunications equips students with skills applicable to the variety of challenges posed by conducting business at the global level.

Stockholm is the financial center of Sweden and most major banks and insurance companies are headquartered in the city. Many of the city's residents work in the service industry with a recent influx in technology firms such as IBM and Ericsson.

The Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) was founded in 1909 through private initiatives and has always enjoyed close cooperation and collaboration with Swedish and international corporations—Sweden hosts more multinational companies per capita than any other nation in the world. SSE was recently ranked #8 in European management masters programs by Financial Times. The SSE curriculum is internationally recognized for developing applied management skills and cross-cultural fluency, and Management Consulting, Consumer Products, and Investment Banking are its primary strengths.

The SSE Career Center assists students entering the job market, and an average of 3–4 company presentations are held weekly. While recruiting is ongoing throughout the year, the largest event is the SSE Business Forum each spring semester.

To be eligible for this education abroad program, you must be:

• A current student enrolled in a Carlson School Part-Time MBA or MA-HRIR program
• In good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0
• Additional criteria may apply

Students in the program are enrolled in a block of Carlson School International Business (IBUS 5300) credits equivalent to their courseload while at SSE. The semester is broken into two periods, each with their own exam period, and students enroll in 2 classes per term in order to be considered full-time and confer the credits.

SSE also offers courses in East Asian Studies that offer insights into international business practice in the East from a Scandinavian perspective. This is a unique opportunity which reflects the growing trend of international networks collaborating for access to emerging Asian markets.

A free six-hour introductory course in basic Swedish is offered to international students.

SSE can arrange accommodations for incoming exchange students. Student are housed in either Lappkärrsberget (Lappis), a student complex on the campus of Stockholm University and five kilometers from Stockholm City or at Saltmätargatan (Saltis) next to the school.

Application materials include the online application form, a resume, and essay. Submit a completed application by the February 28th priority deadline prior to the academic year in which you wish to participate. Programs that do not fill following the priority deadline will be reviewed on a rolling-admissions basis.

Admission to all programs is based on review of your application by the study abroad selection committee. Applications will be reviewed following the deadline, and you will be notified of your status by official letter in April. Once selected, you will be asked to pay a $500 deposit in order to confirm your place in the program.
