Financial Aid

Most Full-Time MBA students receive loans, even if they qualify for other types of financial aid. The University of Minnesota offers many need- and non-need-based loan programs, administered through the Office of Student Finance. To be considered for loan programs, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can submit applications as early as January, but only after you file income taxes. We encourage you to use the application online. If you have questions about loan programs, visit Financial Aid — One Stop, or contact the Carlson MBA financial aid representative at 612-626-0750.

Internal Scholarship List

The Carlson School and the University of Minnesota award a number of academic merit-based fellowships and scholarships. The Full-Time MBA program automatically considers applicants for all scholarships for which they are eligible. Unless noted in the descriptions below, no special application is required for these scholarships; however, we urge candidates to submit their applications for admission by the first or second round deadlines for full consideration.

Other Financial Aid Sources

Many students opt for private and federal loans. Generally, students eligible for federal loans are guaranteed loan amounts up to the federally set cost of attendance. International students need a U.S. co-signer for student loans. Students may also be eligible for company and individual scholarships and graduate assistantships that require special applications. Graduate assistantships are only available to second-year MBA students.
